Cogswell Scientific, LLC recently completed development of a physics-based model of advanced lithium extraction (ALE) for Lithios Inc. The finite element modeling involved coupling electrochemistry and fluid dynamics in a complex geometry with a large aspect ratio. “This was a tricky physical system to model,” said Daniel Cogswell, “but I’m confident this will be a useful R&D tool for studying and optimizing the extraction process.”. Lithios Inc. is a startup in the energy space that is commercializing a proprietary electrochemical extraction method to efficiently and selectively extract lithium from brines, enabling access to large untapped sources of lithium.
